The Shame and the Rape of Bakassi
This article was posted by Aderemi Ojikutu on Nigerian Elections 2007 as a contribution to the way forward on the Bakassi adventure.

The PDP ruling government led by President Obasanjo, notoriously noted for flouting and disobeying court orders at home, has ironically and hastily complied with all the rulings of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), on Bakassi peninsula.

This double-faced hypocrisy was more painful with the hasty manner in which the government unjustly collaborated with Camerounian gendarme to abort the popular will of our people in Bakassi local government.

The ICJ ruled that Camerounian army must not move to occupy the Bakassi until after 2 years of Nigerian Evacuation, but this plundering army has even moved into Bakassi before the final departure of the Nigerian Army, thereby flouting the ruling of the ICJ with impunity.

Now is the time to sound the alarm that this double-faced party (PDP) must reap the indignation of the Nigerian People at the next election (2007). Only the party that can reverse the shame and rape of Bakassi should be enthroned at the polls.

Only a true referrendum or plebiscite of the Bakassi people can bring lasting solution to the problem of Bakassi ignominy, perpetrated by the Abacha regime and consumated by the Obasanjo regime. There is nothing but ruin in the prejudicial occupation of Bakassi by the Camerounian army.
